1881 Census
The 1881 census was taken on the night of 3 April 1881 and gave the total population as 25,974,000.
The Census recorded detailed information on each individual who spent the night in individual households including name, relationship to the head of the family, marital status, age at last birthday, gender, occupation, and birthplace.
Census forms were distributed to all households a couple of days before census night and details filled in by a member of each household. It was not uncommon for a child to complete the census form because they may have been the only member of the household that could read or write.
The completed forms were collected the following day and sorted and copied into The Census books.
I have transcribed over 3000 individual records from the 1881 census into a database that represents all the individuals in the Codnor district at the time.
The database is listed in the same order as the original census and contains the same personal information age, occupation, address etc.
Unfortunately the house numbers in Codnor were not recorded but I will add these as I find them out. Woodlinkin and Golden Valley do have their house numbers recorded.
